A BAA Canal Drop Shot Wasp

Lure angling is a branch of fishing I'm complete newcomer to, and as a result, still a total novice! I do have an Advanta Drop Shot rod though, and have been making my first footsteps using it.

I have a couple of BAA stretches of canal on my doorstep so headed out before dinner for a quick half an hour session.

This is where I ended up. The canal has a bit of a bay where the sandstone bank widens.

There is no BAA fishing past this point, where I think it becomes Kinver Freeliners. That's a shame as there's a short section with a grassy meadow on the opposite bank, allowing more light to the well sheltered canal, and I have seen fish shoaled up basking in the sun beneath the surface there before.

I started by the bridge in a big turning bay where two canals merge, but without any signs of fish, I worked my way down trying likely spots before ended up on the bay above, the last BAA peg.

I flicked out a little Roach pattern lure and felt a little tap straight away, before a more positive bite and I was in.

Only a little wasp Perch as you can see, but it's always nice to catch one on this new to me method.

I came home for dinner and will be back out on another stretch just down the road this evening.
